Femara (generic name: letrozole) is a prescription medication used to treat hormone receptor-positive breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It belongs to a class of drugs called aromatase inhibitors, which work by lowering estrogen levels in the body. This makes it also useful for keeping estrogen levels low in an anabolic steroids cycle.
Femara blocks the enzyme aromatase, which converts androgens (male hormones) into estrogens. Since certain breast cancers grow in response to estrogen, reducing estrogen levels can slow down or stop cancer growth.]
Dragon Pharma Femara (letrozole) is also used in performance enhancement, particularly among bodybuilders and athletes who use anabolic steroids. Its main role in this context is to counteract estrogen-related side effects caused by steroid use.
Anabolic steroids (like testosterone) can convert into estrogen through a process called aromatization. This can lead to gynecomastia (growth of breast tissue in men). Femara blocks aromatase, significantly reducing estrogen levels and preventing this side effect.
After a steroid cycle, natural testosterone production is often suppressed. Since estrogen has a negative feedback effect on testosterone production, reducing estrogen with Femara can stimulate the body to produce more testosterone. However, other drugs like Clomid (clomiphene) or Nolvadex (tamoxifen) are usually preferred for PCT.
0.25–0.5 mg every other day is common among steroid users to manage estrogen.
Higher doses (1–2.5 mg daily) completely crush estrogen and are not recommended unless medically necessary.
Femara is a potent aromatase inhibitor, and misusing it can cause serious hormonal imbalances. Most bodybuilders prefer less aggressive AI drugs like Arimidex (anastrozole) because Femara can lower estrogen too much, leading to weaker muscle gains and joint issues.
